Silkscreen Saturday @ LaunchPad
Now the darling of pop artists, punks, and political activists, screen printing dates back to the Song Dynasty in China, over 3000 years ago. Versatile, affordable, graphic, and technically accessible, silkscreen opens up a world of printmaking options to the amateur and professional artist. On Saturday July 6, LaunchPad and Shoestring Press present a five-hour workshop which will cover basic and advanced techniques in screenprinting.
Topics covered will include:
Hand-cut stencils
Screen drawing
Photo emulsion techniques
Registration
Halftone printing
Digital applications
Freehand approaches
Screenprinting at home
Ink, paper, screens, and all printing materials will be provided for each participant to produce a finished edition of prints during the workshop. In addition, you may wish to bring sketchbooks, digital images (on a laptop or memory stick), and any other materials you may wish to try printing on – t-shirts are always a favorite!
The workshop will run from 10AM- 3PM on Saturday July 6, with a one-hour break for lunch. Materials fee: $25. E-mail info@brooklynlaunchpad.org to register.
