For this show, (and we had a similar idea with our past helio show, A Color Box, [July 2012] though with hue instead of texture), we are going for atmosphere, for creating an environment.
We had the idea of filling up the room with things that offered texture that you couldn’t touch, of the fuzzy feeling of that. At the same time, we have two very distinct artists who work in different media, and we wanted them to each emblamatize a different set of haptic effects.
Sandra works with found fabrics, that she paints, sews, and creates totemic paintings out of. Ted works in intense color and feedback in a unique combination of the digital and analog.
The sound component, in the bathroom, (editor’s note: we love that this is referred to as the “annex” in the show’s press materials…cheeky monkeys!) will be a looping electronic soundtrack that was created just for this show by Christian Science Minotaur. We like to use the bathroom as an adjacent space . In this case, it resolves the sound issue by containing it.
